Ventura Kiteboarding, Kitesurfing Training With The Lifeguards

We started off the 2014 New Year with a call from the Ventura,
State Lifeguards. Their station is South of the Ventura Pier and
from time to time they will get kiters "flushed" in their direction.

We had a 3.5 hour training session, covering many "situational"
recovery and rescue techniques. The Lifeguards main concern
is the swimmer, (kiter down in the water) control lines, the unpredictability of the kite and handling of the kite.

We covered use of the quick release, kite leash, deflating the kite,
observation of "text-book" self-rescue, use of Personal Water Craft
rescue and use of Paddle Board rescue.

The training session was very productive. The key point to remember, repeated many times by the Lifeguards. Their
safety and the swimmers, safety/rescue is the primary focus.
Boards, kites, control bar and lines etc. are a distant third place
and can obviously be replaced.
